A True Southern Treasure
At our May meeting we were highly honored to have Mr. Miller Dial, the Lt. Commander of the Louisiana MOSB, visit our Camp for what can be called a very special occasion.
Mr. Dial, who was born and raised in Cherokee County (his family formed Dialville, just northeast of Rusk), presented our camp with a priceless treasure, the orginial charter for the United Confederate Veterans, Ross-Ector Camp of Rusk dated 1894!
The local Confederate Veterans at that time who formed the camp are well documented.  The records can be found inthe County Clerks' office in the Courthouse basement, if you're interested in finding out if your ancestor was a member of that camp.

Mr. Dial's ancestor, 1st Lt. Thomas S. Townsend of Company E 7th Texas Infantry, was the Adjutant of this UCV Camp and is buried here at the Rusk City Cemetery. (Cedar Hill Cemetery)
This is indeed an honorable gesture for him to return this precious document "Home where it belongs," as Mr. Dial put it.
